The 580940901 fuel cap assembly is a genuine replacement part. Its purpose is to keep the fuel in the tank. It includes a retainer that remains in the tank to keep the fuel cap from being lost or falling on the ground and getting dirt and debris on it and contaminating the tank. Comes with an O-ring to seal the cap.
